39 Weeks

39 weeks and 4 days to be exact. Saturday is "the" day, aka my due date, but I think due date's are overrated. Seriously such an anti-climatic thing. It seems that people rarely deliver on their actual due date, so here you keep looking forward to this date that really never ends up being anything. Listen to me in my big, sassy, pregnant state. And watch me deliver on my actual due date now, ha.

Side note: I couldn't resist the curiosity, so as I was typing this I Googled "what percentage of women deliver on their actual due date?" According to Wikipedia, fewer than 5 percent of births occur on the day of being 40 weeks of gestational age; 50 percent of births are within a week of this duration, and about 80 percent are within 2 weeks.

A few thoughts as I enter the final days of this pregnancy and prepare to meet little Baby Bacon:
  • I now know what women refer to when they say they get really "uncomfortable" at the end. I was apparently was a prego superfreak with Ashlynn because I felt great; never really thought of it as uncomfortable. I now know. When maternity clothes no longer cover the baby bump and you can hardly walk without feeling like you have to pee yourself, you know you've reached your max comfort level.
  • I'm up 2-3 times per night to either pee or reposition. "Repositioning" requires some momentum to roll over to the other side, with occasional grunting or sighs. Poor Jer.
  • While I'm getting uncomfortable at the end, I am still thankful and happy that everything is healthy and on track for baby. That by far outweighs everything else I'm feeling physically.
  • Hospital bag is packed, I've cleaned (and cleaned again), Ashlynn's bag is packed for the grandparents, bassinette is set, pump bag is dusted off and ready for use, a couple pre-made meals are in the freezer, and gender neutral baby clothes are washed and in the dresser.
  • Jeremy and crew are officially done combining, which is awesome. Some tillage left, but the crops are all out. So he's been home the last couple nights doing house projects...Ashlynn and I don't even know what it's like to see him in the evenings, so we're loving it.
  • House projects include a wee mess of knocking a hole in a wall last night to move the washer/dryer so we could start clearing for the new baby room in the old laundry room. Excited that this is finally getting underway, but not excited about the temporary mess days before baby's arrival. But our plumber friend is also a farmer, so this was his first chance to get to this project since harvest came earlier than expected, so totally understandable. And baby will be in our room to start, so we're all good.
  • Jeremy completely surprised me with a pre-push present the other night (or as he said, for being an "awesome mom and pregnant girl" ha). He had a little white bag from our jeweler where we got our wedding rings from, so I was instantly wondering what the heck he was buying since I'm not one to really ask for or want/need jewelry. Well the sneaky guy got the other matching wedding band to go with my engagement ring/wedding ring combo. And I know he had to give this some thought because there was no official matching wedding band for my engagement ring, so we had to have them send out and make one at the time of our wedding, which he had to do with this one, too. So on that note, I think I'll just keep having babies to get more bling. I kid, I kid.
  • Next doc appt is Monday, pending no baby yet. At that time, Lar-dogg (who doesn't nickname their doctor?) will come up with a timeline for when we'd induce. Ashlynn was 8 days overdue and I think he would've let me go until 10 days. So might be the same schedule? All I know is I loved that baby girl came on her own last time without induction. So even if I have to wait it out again, it'd be worth it. But, induction is always a posibility, which is completely fine, too.
  • Feeling contractions, sharp groin pains, lots of baby movement and lots of pressure, so all good signs of labor soon to come, I'm sure.
So until the day when baby decides to make an appearance, I'll continue to stay busy with work and re-cleaning the house. Kidding, well kind of. There will also be more one-on-one time we try to squeeze in with Miss Ashlynn as her days of an only child are dwindling. I can tell she's going to love bossing around a little sibling...

Yes, this is in the Target fitting room as I was last-minute shopping for a dress to wear for our big work event tomorrow night. This was about the only dress I could find that didn't look like a tent. Think it'd be socially acceptable to wear sweat pants to the event among all the women in their fancy, cute cocktail dresses? Don't think the thought hasn't crossed my mind...
